Good news, Buffy the Vampire Slayer fans! Things are looking better for a possible Buffy movie! But here's the bad news: it probably will look nothing like what you are hoping for.
Vertigo Entertainment is in talks with the husband-and-wife team of Kaz Kuzui and Fran Rubel Kuzui to relaunch the Buffy franchise on the big screen--where it all started, says The Hollywood Reporter. Vertigo approached the Kazuis (Fran directed the original Buffy the Vampire Slayer movie) because they own the rights to the Buffy license and also produced the television show and its spinoff Angel.
The new film would not be a prequel or sequel, but a reboot of the series, like Batman Returns was for the dated Batman movie franchise.
It also (so far) doesn't involve popular scribe Joss Whedon, which is likely to cause more than a few groans from the Whedonites. Another point of contention among fans of the TV show will be the exclusion of supporting characters such as Spike, Angel, Willow, or Xander.
But that's the whole idea of the relaunch; the new film will exist in the same universe without tinkering with the events and characters played out by the television show.
What say you, Buffy fans. Is any Buffy movie better than no Buffy movie at all?
