In todays day and age of computers with High Speed Internet there are a few things you need to know about your computer. Just like your car needs Oil and Water to run properly your computer also needs to be maintained.
A quick note about Viruses and Spyware.
A
Virus is a malicious program usually attached to a program you downloaded or an email with an attachment. If you do not download cracked software and if you do not get attachments from friends in email then the chances are you are pretty safe from Viruses.
Spyware is more of a threat to most people. Spyware is a malicious program that tracks what you do on your computer or brings up unwanted internet pages. Spyware is put on your computer simply by going to web pages, including HI5 and MySpace pages. You can also get spyware by installing software. Spyware can bring your computer to a screeching halt, including internet, and you can get hundreds or even a thousand spyware programs on your computer. The worst kind of Spyware to me is a program / spyware that tells you that you have spyware and that it will scan your computer for spyware. But to clean the infections it will ask you to pay for it. So a company in effect infects your computer with spyware and then wants to charge you to clean the infection they put on your computer.
Well the first thing you want to look at on your computer is how much disk space do you have free and available? Check your "My Computer" once in there click on "View" on your menu bar and choose details. When you do this it will tell you the free disk space of all drives. You should have at least 3GB of disk space free to be able to watch a movie and operate your computer properly and efficiently. The reason for this is because your computer will use usually around 1-2 GB of disk space to simulate RAM memory when it runs out of the RAM that you do have installed on your computer. Then although you are streaming a video from the internet and usually you are not saving it to the hard drive your computer still downloads the entire movie, temporarily, and requires around 1 GB of space to store the files. If you do not have around 3 GB of disk space then you must delete old files, old movies or programs, internet caches to free up sufficient disk space. PLEASE delete only files you have put onto your computer and use the uninstall feature of any program you wish to remove from your computer.
DO NOT go to your c: drive and delete programs directly nor delete files you do not know anything about.
One more thing you should do at least once every year is to defragment your Hard Drive. You can do this by right clicking , in My computer, on your C:\ drive and choose properties, in properties you will see a Tools tab and under the Tools tab is the option to defragment your hard drive.
If you have sufficient Diskspace then the next step would be to make sure you do not have spyware on your computer, this is
very highly likely.
I recommend Spybot : Search and Destroy it is 100% free and does a great job.

Make sure when you install Spybot you, backup your registry, get all the updates then immunize. Then do a search and destroy on your computer to find the spyware and remove all of them. Also make sure you update, immunize and search for spyware on your system at least once a month. This will search out and give you the option of getting rid of all spyware on your computer 100% free, no ads & no catches. It will also protect your computer from future attacks and problems and it uses very little resources. Unlike many other program SUITES, Norton, Mcaffee, that hog all your resources and can cause many problems for novice computer administrators. Now a note, depending on speed and memory of your computer this process can take from 10 minutes to close to an hour. But trust me, you want to spend the time to get rid of the infections.
Do these 2 things and you will probably solve many problems on your computer.
