Local Muslims hold discussion on contentious issue Redmond, WA – Despite being the second largest religious group in the United States, Muslims in the mainstream of the American melting pot often feel that they are marginalized. On Thursday night, several members of the Seattle Eastside community took America's understanding of their way of life into their own hands. The local chapter of WhyIslam held an open door discussion on the topic of Islam and Feminism to address the issue of women's rights in Islam. Women's rights is an issue that comes up early and often in many discussion about Muslims. To help disseminate knowledge of Islam's position on the issue, Imam Mohamad Joban and Zeina Askar talked both about Islam's basic beliefs and teachings as well about women's rights specifically. They mentioned points such as the rationale behind the hijab and the difference between Islamic teachings of equality and the actions of Muslims.
